Jiggy Tots® is a creative Irish dance & movement class uniquely developed for children ages 18 months-5 years.

Jiggy Tots has two carefully curated curriculums: "Jiggy Tots Junior" for ages 18 months-3 years, with a participating adult and "Jiggy Tots Senior" for ages 3-5, each featuring a mixture of traditional Irish step dance basic moves & steps, popular toddler songs and games.

Each class works on building strength, developing gross motor skills, coordination, body awareness and movement creativity through dance and educational games utilizing counting and colors (sometimes including a few words in Irish language).

Upbeat traditional Irish music and song, mixed with popular toddler songs, clapping, stamping and instruments are also used to explore rhythm and a variety of time signatures.

Beginner

Beginner classes are for those new to Irish Dance!  We will learn about the different music and begin to work on timing and rhythm with the basics of irish Dance. In addition to learning the foundational Irish Dance movements, students will focus on their balance, coordination and posture.  Dancers will learn soft shoe dances such as reels, jigs and slip jigs as beginners.

Advanced Beginner / Novice

This class is for students who are progressing with their softshoe skills and know their reel, jig and slip jig. The class will cover softshoe and hardshoe.  Dancers will advance softshoe skills and technique, and introduce hardshoe basics, such as trebles, tips, stomps and an introduction to traditional hardshoe dances.  Hardshoes aren't necessary at first, but encouraged!  Please check the used shoe bin in the parents room or ask a teacher on how to purchase. We will likely start dancers in sneakers while learning the basics if they do not have hardshoes.  As the class progresses throughout the year, hardshoes will be necessary to effectively participate.

Prizewinner

At this level, dancers have a full repertoire of dances. All dances will increase in skill and difficulty when transitioning to Prizewinner. We will continue to polish technique and performance quality with a continued focus on timing, body control and feet placement.

Preliminary and Open Championship

Dancers at these levels have masterd all the steps in Irish Dance. In order to showcase the highest level of proficiency, dancers will focus on one soft and one hard shoe dance at a time. Classes will focus on technique, timing, strength, endurance and presentation. More personalized choreography is introduced in the form of comtemporary set pieces in addition to learning show choreography for events. This level of dancing requires the most commitment.
